And the night was still young. Lilith Mortimer had finally decided to remove herself from the paperwork regarding the onslaught of families seeking appointments for their "lost loved ones." After indulging herself with the fun of her workload, Lilith had finally pushed away the pen and stacks of paper. More dead were piling in, lying on the metal gurneys, waiting for their cremations as families would mourn during the service early in the day. Lilith delicately pinched in the bridge of her pert nose with gloved fingers, and had thus felt the urge of a hunger that the blood packets in her mini fridge would never, ever satiate.

In a rustle of silk and lace, the female vampire stood up slowly from her plush antique chair of violet with black wood. The usually sweet brown of her eyes were flashing the dangerous tawny of the killer lurking beneath her small, and seemingly harmless frame. Moving her hands from her neatly arranged, but cluttered oak desk, she pulled out a drawer and revealed long knives, each with dark maple as the handle, silver inlay and a wickedly curving, carbon steel blade. She hummed after a brief inhalation, fingertips brushing over the dangerously fine curves. She decided that one would bode her well, her eyes being weapons that would allure as much as they'd repel.

It didn't take long for Lilith to be walking down the steps of her crematorium, which at this hour, resembled a hellishly black church jutting toward the moon. Lilith's hair was pinned back and clasped into a loose bun by a steel hairpin. A long navy pea coat hugged her tiny frame, concealing the black corset over her silk white blouse and knee-length pencil skirt. Heart-shaped red lips pursed together as she faced the park across, shrouded in mystery and darkness. A perfect world for the hunters, and since it was so close, Lilith would have no problem bringing the body back to cremate. With her knife stowed safely inside her coat, the ravenous vampire moved swiftly in red six-inch pumps. Silver piercings glinted along the curve of her ears, catching kisses from the moonlight.

Hunt. Kill. Feed. Three primal instincts took over, bringing out the unnatural tawny glow to her orbs as she ambled along the stone pathway once she stepped past one of the many arched entrances of Central Park. The crematorium waited patiently for its owner to return, watching with stained glass turquoise windows as eyes.

It had been many Lunas -many Amun-Ras- since he had happenchance to set foot near or in the great park of the Yorkland of Amerigo Vespucci's namesake nation; the last advent being long before the Shift and the coming of his distant city. Disquieted within himself at the very thought of the place, nay.. of its entire region and all adjacent prefectures, he was visibly tense and stern on his surface.

The ent he occupied swayed subtly in the midnight breeze. 'T'was late an hour for the land of the living. He suspected only the downtrodden, desperate, and disreputable would be out and about. Such did not matter to him at and in this chapter, though; the notions of relativity -of the concepts of "good" and "bad"- having long since been effaced and rewritten. His phalanges surgically opened, flexed, and rested closed again, moving markedly similarly to those equivalent digits of the arachnid bird-hunters.

Dark eyes pierced the night like the fiercest and most patient eagles of olde. His frame was still; an eerie calm. Poised for inevitable claiming of the next worthy and deserving Outsider, he waited.. silent as a memory, still as a grave. And then he saw her.. and had reason to take pause. There was something delectable about this one. He considered making his presence known, that he might submit a compliment on her behalf.. but something in his gut and mind told him he wouldn't have to; this one was not moving like the mud-eyed, vacuous-minded 'man-animals. This one was a Kraken; the latest adopted pseudonym of the claimers of the bloodwine.

His lips parted as silently as the rest of him remained. Like the fangs of a ghast or night terror, his were carnassial and passionately waiting; shivering in anticipation the way only bones can. From the point of view seen by anyone else around him, though, they would appear flat, even, and herbivorous; much to the contrary. He was not about to leap and feast on her rapidly mangled carcass, though; he was smiling. One hunter had spotted another.

She was a monster, here to show the night her teeth. Lilith's fangs sprouted after a slight burn in her gums, dropping to prickle her full bottom lip as she prowled the pathway for a target. She had a specific guideline that most careful vampires adhered to. It was always better to seek out the ones who'll be forgotten, like the drug peddlers or the bums. Persons that no one would miss, whose life mattered little to the city at large. New York was bedraggled with the worst since the unveiling, and she could smell it, the outbreak of werewolves overrunning the park. The fog rolled softly because of the winter, and her heels clicked sharply. She appeared harmless, approachable even with her sweet appearance, but her fangs were out as her mouth watered for the intake of blood.

She kept her hands in her pockets, afraid that once released she would release the blade. A couple appeared in the fog, snogging on the black metal bench. She stepped off the grass, to stand in the shadows of a lurking tree. Eyes tawny bright as she eyed the couple, smelling out the pheromones that reminded her of the sexual tension at The Lounge. She drew in a raggedy breath, the hunger shriveling up her veins as the extreme need for blood arose, but she also was in need of more than blood, she needed to hunt. The chase would feed her frenzy just as well. Lilith was not herself this evening, but the monster that lurked beneath her tiny body, like a metaphysical werewolf.

Lilith had to remind herself that these humans were not intended for premature death. They had connections, and that forced Lilith to hesitate. Wrenching her gaze away, the vampire clenched her teeth, the sharp points of her fangs puncturing the soft pad of her bottom lip. Her own blood assaulted her nostrils, and she groaned, pushing away from her hiding spot for somewhere else to find. She was going to make a mess, she needed order, she needed a plan. Once she successfully moved away from the couple, and into the shadows of elsewhere down a different path, her nose certainly picked up something as well as her hearing. She turned her head sharply, eyes flashing brightly. She almost bore her teeth to the stranger, and she realized then that someone had been watching her. Lilith had just spotted the other hunter.

When the fierce little creature detected and flashed attention-capturing eyes at him, he became instantly excited on every level. His eyes flashed back instinctively, saying "Have at thee! Let us kill each other in the sweet embrace of mortal combat and Death!" but he made no move to pursue that. Eye contact in his land was a sign of positive aggression. From an Outlander in these parts, it was a sign of the highest heresy and disrespect, disobedience, and discourteousness. From a rare gem such as her, it was... as of just now: a gray area. He was undecided on how to proceed. Every fibre in his being wanted to lock horns with her, bite and tug off large strips of her flesh, savagely mindlessly claw her eyeballs right out of their sockets, scalp her as he entered her, pinning her with his chest as he breathed down hot, lusting breaths into her gasping mouth, and drooling and dripping even hotter, bright red blood from both his wounds and hers that she might savor such a drink in her death throws and rattle... but somehow.. every fibre in him also wanted to watch and study her, court her like two fearless wolves circling each other, maybe even get down from this tree and...

His wildly wide eyes, almost shining black in the Luna glow through the canopy foliage breaks, let go of her.. moved left.. moved right.. and saw no one to notice him and his descent. The scents of the park around him silently drifted up into his nostrils, and let him know his eyes were correct in their perception. They moved back over and up.. to lock back directly at and into hers.

Without removing them from their equally predatory targets, he shifted and slid down gracefully from his perch up in the tree, finally dropping into a collapsing spring of a landing like a cat, being sure to make no sound at all. Although, he suspected, with her acute senses, being that which she very much seemed to be, she probably heard and felt it to a degree. Eyes still on her, and now on the ground and out in the open just up the sloping terrain off the side of the footpath, he rose and stood like the proudest of the arch angels; like a show horse ready to pose and prance. His nostrils flared and his eyes grew even wider and more focused.

He felt like he could hear all the banshees of Hell screaming and wailing in epic discord through the back of his head, out the front of his face, and filling the entire park with the sounds of the starving damned, terrifying every soul within miles as black, billowing wings of smoke expanded from his shifting shoulder blades and erupted out and up into the dark park's sky. If anyone shared these visions, no one had ever told him. His fingers felt alive and ready as ever to act like steak knives. Some of his own blood began to trickle into his mouth from where teeth met gums. He was whetting his own appetite.

And then he bowed. His head stayed facing her, his eyes stayed locked on hers; one hand moving eerily to rest with open digits upon his firm abdomen, the other hand drifting like a spirit on the wind off to his left side. He returned to his upright posture and shook out his hair counter- and clockwise, like a lion with its impressive mane. He had decided, for now, that anyone also hunting the disgusting Outlanders, was friend.

Lilith didn't breathe. The perks of being something like the undead. She certainly felt alive from the change, the infection running throughout her body like snake venom. Hazardous, not so poisonous but certainly painful to anyone who'd experience her bites. Being an emotional feeder had its downs from enjoying a meal. She'd get carried away, and that would be more added to the funeral pyre. She slowly sucked in a deep breath through her nostrils, intaking the grass, the dirt, the cold and the male before her. He was warm, she could feel it despite their distance. Her lips pursed before her upper teeth dragged over her bottom lip. The incisors reluctantly retracted.

His excitement was palpable that she could taste it on the tip of her tongue. She smoothed her hand over her coat, over where the knife was sheathed against. The cold blade pressed through the thin chiffon of her top and to her already cool flesh. She was prepared to strike out if he so much as stepped toward her. Two hunters locked eyes, his with excitement and hers with wariness and intrigue. She had a feeling that he wasn't exactly human, perhaps one of the metas manifested from the unveiling. She watched him as he moved off his perch on the tree branch. His heavy body barely made a sound when they hit the ground, and then he stood. A breeze carried, and Lilith's nostrils flared, swearing that she had picked up the familiar, tangy and coppery scent of blood. She remained where she stood as he approached her. Gloved hand slid beneath her coat to wrap around the hilt of her knife, but what came next surprised her. Her eyebrows shot up beneath her bangs when he dipped into a bow. She could've forsworn other things happening, but not this.

She had thought that he would barrel down for an attack, his body language certainly gave her that vibe and she was prepared, ready to lash back with her blade and fists. Her gums burned from the fact that she forced her fangs back from the copper scent that still permeated the air with nature. His body folded over into a bow that spoke of old, traditional times, a time that she would certainly be successful living in. He kept his face to her, and getting over her startled emotion, she smirked and curtsied to the stranger. The other hunter, one that would no doubt be a great adversary, was showing companionship with that gesture. Lilith would certainly return the favor, and politely dipped her head forward as she curtsied with an imaginary gown. She flashed her teeth at him with her wicked smile, feral tawny eyes bating him to speak.

Auz knew full and well what she was. It was in the way she moved, paused, smelled and breathed without having to; it was in the way her body almost dragged and yanked and forced her forward, ever in pursuit of that sacred drink. Her kind had intrigued him and captured his lust for ages. He wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to meet and honor one -especially not after his truly taxing encounter with the witch human back at his hotel.

When the tempting lady curtsied, his wild eyes relaxed and narrowed as a warm, fatherly grin slid onto his face. He stepped forth from his position with nonchalant aristocracy and a commanding, slow gait. Once he was within nay but a few feet of her, he extended his right hand in gesture that she might offer him hers. His intent was to raise it to his lips for a cordial kiss, ever the gentleman reverent of the olde ways, speak, and rites.

His voice was a soft, melodic, whisper of baritone that flowed from his lips in more of a secret song shared only between them, than a common, unpolished greeting. Music and full body motions were as much a part of his language as words were. "Lord Auzdein von Schäfer at your service, fair lady of the night. It would appear you and I both pursue the crimson cocktail this hour. Oh, how I am tingling and craving it so." he took in a breath, repressing shivers of longing for the aforementioned. "And how might I address you?"

This meeting was certainly an intriguing one, almost like the good old days of courtship. Lilith was a woman on her own and without an escort, and this man was playing in this game of perhaps wooing her. Flattered as she was, Lilith was still wary of the stranger. He didn't seem like all the other humans, and a gut feeling told her that if all came to worse, he would definitely be hard to kill. Not that she wanted to make any kills this evening...

But... blood called out for her, and his blood certainly ensnared her like a vine, tugging her toward his being, so that they could begin their twisted waltz. The curtsy relaxed the wild, predatory look in his eyes, and a warm grin softened the edges. Lilith relaxed as well, and she watched as he walked, without a rush and with gentlemanly grace. Lilith could say that she had already fallen in lust at first sight. Not many men would behave as he would, too modern for her taste and even vulgar.

Lilith couldn't help the purr at the invitation of his right hand held toward her. Lilith closed the distance some more, sliding her small gloved hand into the curve of his, ready to accept the press of his fine lips. ♦ "Mmmm..." purred the mortician, keeping her hand in his. She felt as if she had just traveled back in time, and with the way he addressed her as a 'fair lady of the night' made her giggle. She wanted to hide her face, but she was transfixed, eyes dancing from his face and to the pulse of life, before she was back at holding his gaze. The crimson cocktail! She bit her bottom lip at the tantalizing image his words presented. Another who'd feast on red? How exciting!

♦ "Lilith Mortimer, Lord Auzdein, the mortician." She cooed, eyes shining bright with her wicked hunger. ♦ "I know not what you are, but you intrigue me... your voice is pleasant to my ears, and your manners are such that I haven't seen, even when I was a child!" She drew closer, ♦ "How is it that you gained a healthy appetite? And shall we hunt together, Lord Auzdein?"

The more, Lilith thought with a smirk, the merrier.

When she let her hand slip neatly into his own, accepting his offer to continue the formal courtship of the highest lands and houses, his face softened and warmed even a bit more. When she purred shortly thereafter, his eyes, still looking upon her own, flashed with animalistic lust and the energy of an imminently erupting sun. He was clearly aroused by the amiable and amative euphony of one so like-cultured as him. She couldn't possibly prove compatible beyond this point, he cynically assumed.. nevertheless, her choices had earned his interest.

Raising the back of her trust-emplacing and daringly surrendered hand, he met it with an otherworldly smoothness of warm, full, pursing lips that left not a bead of moisture where they had lain, and slowly, longingly retracted to rest taut about his maw, allowing only the faintest of parting clicks to grace their pairs of ears. His eyes were now allowed to become as transfixed as her own, returning that compliment, rather than reciprocating, in the sense of producing the social equivalent of the mathematical definition of the term, like so many chose in feigned superiority and juvenile dating tactics in this era.

Lord Auzdein read her eyes deeply, as if penetrating her through to her soul, but in the most pleasant and curious of ways; entering her with enthusiasm and vigor, complimenting her form and composition. His peripheral read her body language at the same time. She was candid -and enjoying the courting which he had always sworn by from the very fibres of his being and essence. This was well received in his heart and mind. It was quite the rarity that any Outlander, regardless of heritage or persuasion, would ever have even the ability to appreciate something so alien, long lost, and forgotten.

"Verily," he responded to her name. "Lady Lilith Mortimer," slowly lowering their joined hands until they finally slid fingertips over one another's and slipped apart. For a moment, the ferocious beast bubbled up to the surface deep within him, and all he could think of and see was himself rushing forward into her defending embrace, savagely and viciously biting into her neck as he took her every which way, and letting her bite into his intentionally exposed neck to share in the carnal feasting, weaving his digits through the mop of hair behind her neck and clenching them down like a passionate vice refusing to ever let her go, forcing and pressing her fountaining jugular ever closer to his teeth, and his to hers as they began to shiver and convulse in terror-spiked ecstasy. This was abruptly repressed. Her ability to curtsy and remain sophisticated in the presence of another blatant drinker had him all but spellbound. He would mutually entertain and respect this one.. for now. To bring her, as she had presented herself, to face his old chum, Death, would be most imprudent in his not so humble opinion.

He returned to his kingly posture, peacocking before her with jutted chin displaying rather than condescending. "Knowing not what I am makes us like and to the same in that regard." His eyes narrowed almost in a cute and flirty way, and they studied her, moving down over her lips, tracing the delicate curves of her neck and frame through her garments, before returning to surrender back into her own with a visible rising and falling of his confident chest, and an audible sigh letting her know exactly what he was fantasizing about at this point in their exchange. "You intrigue, as well. A curtsy as refined and breath-taking as the lady who summons and commands it is a precious gem in this place and time. I have until this moment nay had happenchance to be met with such a majestic grace. I thought it all dust in the wind by now, save revered within myself." He paused briefly and let in and out another, less audible breath. He had noticed her locking on to his jugular, and this, too, had boiled forth a barely repressed urge to simultaneously attack and roughly make love to her.

Continuing, he let one leg shift its calf and shin forward, lightly aiming its foot and toes toward her in offerance of his energy and attention, placing and maintaining his focal point on and within her. "I gained our shared appetite many Ras ago.. upon the developments of my studies as an adolescent. However, I am compelled to make public note of the fact that such came from scientific cross-examination and choice, rather than from the turning. I have enjoyed a growing affinity for those who enjoy the same.. ever since. ..And certainly, we shall proceed to acquire that rejuvenating, Lazaran liquid together, if the august Lady feels so stirred and concurrent." Pivoting on his heel, he rotated into a stance at a 45 degree angle just a step ahead and off to her side, offering her an arm neatly bent at the elbow for her to entwine her own 'neath and around.

And with a smirk and a knowing twinkle in his eyes, "I wouldn't want us to become so engrosed and frustrated that we had inclination to resort to one another for said wine." The smirk fought to widen, "Not yet." Something that amazing could wait until (if) the bedchamber occurred, or some other, more exotic location did. But that was most unlikely, despite and regardless of how she had turned him on. It was practically forbidden and unthinkable to share in such an act with anyone beyond his distant district's walls.

At long last, he had found another vampire. His arteries and veins were electrified back to life and zeal.

Lady Lilith Mortimer.

That title excited a tremor of giggles that would end with a deliciously cute squeak, like a baby mouse. She cleared her throat… holding onto his hand and peering deeply into his eyes. She returned his soul-searching stare, but his abilities would be put into question since he wasn’t certainly… human. His eye contact could provide Lilith with a number of options. If he were marked as her prey, she would attempt to hinder him with fear, an ability that she would rarely use… but called for pleasurable, even disturbing times for the vampire. She found herself reveling in watching her victim’s scream with fear, before looking away to end their inner suffering… and she would suddenly feel guilt, so much guilt in fact that she ended their suffering quickly, with a bite of her fangs and the burning fire of the furnace. To make herself feel better… at least she was helping the world in lessening the population in the… worst of times. Ah yes, post-shift madness. A very reasonable excuse.

She had looked away for a few seconds, eyes scanning and nostrils flaring for any humans flitting about. She wasn’t particular, however, even the meta humans would suffice… and those with abilities, they proved delightful but those of the same infected origins… She tried not to look disgusted (or disappointed). Perhaps, in another universe, to be satiated from feeding on your own would be possible. Lilith wondered about such a world until his hauntingly alluring voice would bring her to look at him in his regal and charming posture. If he didn’t judge, and was a fellow drinker, Lilith didn’t hesitate to flash her fangs in her crimson smile.

The workings of his mind would remain a mystery, but how they looked upon one another were like two predators showing intrigue.

But who would be the beta to two alpha hunters? Lilith would later find out once they find their meal, her fingers itching to put her knife to work, in gliding the wickedly curved edge to peel open flesh and lap up the ruby jewels of life. She could feel the rapid mind of the infected tingling from the base of her skull, threatening to take over and even attack this gentleman. She had been efficient with her hunts; it wouldn’t do to break out of her OCD. His compliment would provide a barely there… blush on her pale cheeks. She sighed delicately, his story bringing much more intrigue from the vampire. Someone who’d been experimenting before the shift, in… said precious wine?

♦ "Yes, while I would love to walk and for us to chat… a meal is more appropriate at the moment." She broke eye contact to look ahead, her eyes narrowing then when the couple she had seen earlier… were on the move. She looked hungrily, her face distorting the slightest bit with her conflicting personas. The monster or the human. Who would win in this internal battle? Lilith’s hand glided away from Auzdein’s.

No… no… she would not kill them. Someone else… something else… the hunter breached the sweet brown of her hues, glowing amber as her fangs grazed her plump bottom lip. She slipped her hand away from Auzdein’s, ♦ "I believe I’ve found our meal." She would say without hiding the glee, for emerging from the shadows would be a group of ruffians, trailing after the couple.

Her particular laugh had triggered the flash of amusement that his mouth fought in a few attempts to keep under control. No sound left his vocal chords. When Lilith revealed her fangs to him, a soft, knowing grin bloomed from his face as his dark brown eyes became very approachable and even loving. The pitch pupils and their chocolaty bordering irises shifted back up to move from one of her eyes to the other and back again; part of his city’s body language for platonic compatibility.

♦ "Yes, while I would love to walk and for us to chat… a meal is more appropriate at the moment."

‘Ooo,’ he thought; ‘her communiqué is sophisticated and laced with deeper meanings.’ His eyes followed suit, breaking their mutual lock with her own, and he scanned in a complimentary field of view. Auz was already feeling his picky, perfectionistic side resurfacing, and dismissed several possibilities for their “dinner date”.

♦ "I believe I’ve found our meal." When Auz’s eyes instinctively moved in the direction his ears told him her voice was traveling and indicating, the expression on his face said only one thing: sub-par. Despite this, he was still enthused to play with her, even if he almost certainly would not be feasting on the likes of them. Her appetite was clearly more commanding than his, but that went without saying. Nodding faintly, his eyes remained fixed on them, starting to work out their options as his hand very subtly started drifting toward one of his sheathed blades.

In a barely audible, baritone whisper to Lilith, out the corner of his mouth: “I care to let first blood, ...if the lady is in concurrence.” His posture was very slowly shifting as he started to lean forward toward the targets she had chosen; his features starting to appear as if he naturally mimicked and prowled like the wolf-kin. Everything in him wanted to start purring out a guttural snarl, and leaping forward into a gallop on all fours. His blades and mandible stood ready for her signal…
